A good read. I was glad you mentioned Valarie Kaur later on in your article, and wish you had credited her for the potent language — and the invitation to tell a new story — in your opening words, when you mentioned the ”darkness of the tomb” and the “darkness of the womb.” I was reminded of how incredibly powerful it was for her to pose that question, in a now-famous speech: “What if this (what we’re facing/living into) is NOT the darkness of the tomb… but the darkness of the womb?” For, as you so eloquently put it in this article, we are truly birthing a new time, a new Way, a new story. And birthing DOES come from the womb. So it’s no surprise that a woman (Valarie) put forward that analogy for this time. I honor her here, in that remembrance.
I am not a left-liberal, but an aspiring revolutionary fighter for Justice, Peace and Socialism…I stopped supporting the Democratic Party several years ago, having been among the Liberal-Left Progressive anti-war and anti-racist Activists for decades, but watching the corruption of the dem party elite affect & literally poison the body politic of the ‘rank & file masses’ of genuine middle and working class toilers being hit in the gut election after election, as they too heard the words of the top echelon of leaders failed to match their deeds! Concluding that the dem party was no real alternative to fight the growing conservative & neo-conservative right, I looked to the REAL LEFT in America & abroad - those schooled in Marxist- Leninist theory and studying those nations struggling to implement treasured & precious Socialist Principles, while constantly under attack by the “dark forces” who hated & feared anything that even smelled of Communist Theories!! Turning toward these often Brilliant Academic Analysts who better understood the severe limitations of the brain-washing propaganda infecting every single institution from the real economy all the way up to the opportunists at the top of the ‘body politic’. The poorest among the hard-working classes don’t have the ‘luxury’ or ‘privilege’ of the “Liberal-Left” & yet some beautiful & profound references in your honest writing spoke to my optimistic outlook and love for those Americans who have been so betrayed, so I decided to make a comment…& not dismiss the valuable parts of your newsletter! I have more specific points to share, but given the late hour and my tired eyes, I will end here & revisit your article again! Keep your faith in the birth pains of a better humanity that we fighters often ‘suffer’ through!
