Make America Great At Last

We fight tyranny not in spite of America's ideals, but because of them.

Shakespeare warned that even the devil can cite Scripture for his purpose. Within hours, Trump will do exactly that.

By signing this monstrous bill into law on the Fourth of July—a bill that loots from struggling Americans to fatten the billionaires—he is the devil quoting scripture. And the scripture he’s hijacking isn’t just words. It’s our most sacred civic day. A day meant to honor the aspirational ideals of patriots fighting for freedom.

Instead, he gives us the aspirational ideals of tyrants demanding loyalty. Even as he takes our lives.

All of American history is a battle between the forces of freedom and the forces of slavery. And today, July 4th, 2025, slavery is winning.

We are losing. Decisively. To a billionaire tyrant who showed us exactly who he was—and still got elected. That fact alone is enough to make anyone give up on patriotism.

But here's the deeper question:

Can we be patriotic to the ideals of this nation while keeping our eyes open to how far we’ve fallen from them? How far we’ve always been from them?

Can we still hold faith in the brilliance of the Declaration of Independence?

My friend Danielle Lee Tomson says it best: “Winning in American politics is a game of capture the flag.”

If we surrender the flag—if we decide they’re the only ones who get to wave it—then we’ve handed them the whole field. We’ve let the devil keep quoting scripture unchallenged.

We can’t let that happen.

We have one year until America’s 250th birthday. One year to take back our flag, our symbols, our nation.

It’s time to fight the fucking tyrants—not in spite of America’s ideals, but because of them.

Those ideals have always been great. They’ve just never been realized.

But in our quest to realize them, we have won against many a tyrant. We’ve defeated the British Empire. We’ve defeated the slaveowners. We’ve defeated the America First movement of the 1930s. We’ve defeated the Nazis. We’ve defeated the KGB. We’ve even taken on the monopolists—at least for a time.

And each time we’ve faced down these threats to liberty, we’ve emerged bruised but stronger—more committed to the creed at the heart of this nation.

Now we face all of them at once. Each of these evils, each of these empires, is coursing through one carbon-based creature who now occupies the White House.

So let’s rise up. Let’s take our country back from these f*ckers. Let’s finally Make America Great At Last. Yes we can. Yes we must. Yes we will.

Fuck our own cynicism. Let’s fucking win.
